Agricultural Development in Namaacha district

Support is being extended to new families in Mahelane (Namaacha) following the implementation of a first project (2005/2006) that ensured food security for families run by women, through improved techniques of agricultural production.

Film on Domestic Violence in the context of the Nweti Campaign (Health communication)

To complement the collaboration of the Belgian Cooperation with Oxfam and the World Health Organization, this project foresees the creation of a film on Domestic Violence, through the story of a Mozambican fisherman's family. The production will form part of a total of 9 films being disseminated across Southern Africa.

Cultural project: “Improvisation” through music/dance

Cultural encounters amongst students from 3 artistic schools of Maputo will focus on dance, music & video art through improvisation, as a more flexible form of creation introducing students to other visions in their artistic aspirations.

Production of the movie “I Love You” on HIV/AIDS

The short film “I Love You”, by Rogério Manjate, communicates a strong message on how the fight against HIV/AIDS can also be successful through small gestures of love, respect & solidarity. The film has been projected in Maputo and will be distributed as educational material across the country with the support of UNESCO.

International conference on regional collaboration and financing of professional contemporary performance

A dance workshop for the preparation of a regional conference on contemporary performance was coordinated by the organization CULTURARTE in August. Financial support was also provided for the preparation of a Regional Conference on Contemporary Performance in Southern & Eastern Africa held in November 2007.

Dance & multimedia workshop

This project was implemented by the Escola Nacional de Artes Visuais (ENAV) in collaboration with two Belgian artistic organizations (Tuning People & Kidscam) to give the opportunity to artists to share experiences and come together to work on dance, sound and animation. The workshop foresaw the training of Mozambican artists & students on the use of video and other multimedia materials for dancing activities.

Financial support for the DOCKANEMA documentary film festival

Financial support to the DOCKANEMA festival in Maputo enabled the projection of two crucial documentaries in the debate on challenges in Africa: “Mobutu, roi du Zaïre” and “River Congo”, by the Belgian director Thierry Michel.

Support to victims of PAIOL explosion

The purpose of this project was to carry out an evaluation of the state of deficiency of the victims and facilitate the re-adaptation process of the victims by improving structures of access in their houses and supporting them in new activities to generate revenue. With the support of Handicap International, activities were implemented by the local association RAVIM (Rede de Assistência as vitimas das Minas o outro Enghenheiro).

Support for the development of an Ethnobotanical garden

The scope of this project is to provide financial support to the Centre for Ethnobotanical Research & Production for the development medicinal and nutritional plants in a Botanical Garden in Namaacha.

Capacity building for journalists on Environment & Poverty

This project was designed to promote the production and dissemination of information on Poverty & Environment and look for opportunities of training to consolidate national capacity in environmental administration. A workshop for journalists of northern Mozambique was organized by the Centro Terra Viva in November 2007 and benefited of interventions by representatives of UNDP and MICOA
