About Us

Mozambique is a partner country for the Belgian cooperation since 1999.

The Belgian cooperation supports programmes and projects in Mozambique through channels as follows:

Direct bilateral cooperation;
The Belgian Survival Fund;
Indirect bilateral cooperation channelling the funds through Belgian and non governmental organizations;
Multilateral cooperation, through international institutions and organizations such as specialised UN-organisations;
The cooperation in the context of the ACP-EU Agreements

Complementarily to the above mentioned channels, Belgian Parliament passed a law in 2001 creating the “Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries” (BIO). The objective of BIO is the development of private enterprise in developing countries.

The Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of the Belgium elaborated the Indicative Cooperation Programme (ICP) based on the consultation between the two countries for the period of 2006-2008. The ICP will serve as the reference for document for the identification and implementation of the bilateral cooperation programme and it contains the objectives, main areas and themes of direct cooperation, the indicative amount allocated for the specific objectives, sectors or themes and mutually agreed upon.

The ICP was established taking into account:

Tthe Mozambique action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty, 2006-2009 (PARPA)
The Belgian priorities of the Belgian cooperation, as defined in the Belgian Law regarding International Cooperation (Link) (may 1999)
The Millennium Development Goals
The General Agreement with Mozambique signed in May 2001
The guidelines of the OECD/DAC regarding Aid Effectiveness
